On Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, 18-year-old newlywed Megan Nicole Liebengood, was callously shot to death in the parking lot of her apartment home in Lexington Kentucky.
Megan was simply unloading groceries from her car, when she was accosted by suspects who later admitted, they were out to “hit a lick”: street slang for robbing someone. Somewhere around 10:30 PM they found their mark. A diminutive young woman. Easy prey for cowards.
This 4-part mini-series is a heart felt conversation with Homicide Investigators Chris Schoonover and Rob Wilson. Chris and Rob will carry you through a brisk but highly detailed investigation that cleared the murder case. You will hear how they made their strategic and tactical decisions, using skills sets that you may not have heard of before to bring this case to an ethical and legal conclusion. More importantly, you will hear how this demonic, brutal, and senseless crime impacted those assigned to investigate it.
Note: The listener will notice that the detectives did not name the suspects. Though they were juveniles prosecuted and convicted as adults, The Murder Police Podcast believes in protecting the record of these cleared cases and in cases like these, having the investigators not name the suspects is part of that effort.
That said, links to several news stories and court records below report that Michael Merrall Shepherd, Robert Benton Miller and Patrick Lewis Cook, are the ones responsible for her death.
